“A Successful Model for Economic Cross-Border Cooperation” The main objective of the project is to establish an effective cross-border model for business support and create conditions for the enhancement of the economic competitiveness in the border region through the joint initiatives of the development of a free zone in Pernik and the free zone in Pirot which will facilitate the access of Bulgarian and Serbian goods and products to the large markets of the EU countries and Russia. The specific objectives of the current action include increasing the regional economic potential of the two municipalities by developing zones which would impact the whole export business of Bulgaria and Serbia, strengthening the links with the private sector developers from the two neighboring countries, promotion of the economic opportunities offered by the free zones and attraction of local and foreign investments to the municipalities of Pernik and Pirot, increasing the local capacity of the municipality of Pernik for implementing joint initiatives and building regional capacity for absorption of EU funded programmes. The activities under the projects are formation of an Initiative Committee of the future free zone in Pernik, organization of seminar for municipal experts on Identification of project ideas, delivery of feasibility study on potential of establishment a free zone in Pernik, meeting with Serbian partners in Pernik, elaborating of investment plan for establishment and performance of the free zone of Pernik, establishment of a free zone information centre for cross-border coordination between Pernik and Pirot, preparation of all the necessary documentation for the construction of a free zone and elaborating a pipeline of projects for the development of the future free zone, organization of exchange and exploitation of good practices seminar and organization of free zone business forum Pernik-Pirot. Project will have a significant impact on the following target groups: the municipal employees working in the free zone information centre in Pernik, the municipality of Pirot, the SMEs representatives and potential investors, the initiative committee members, the municipality of Pernik, the subcontractor companies which will deliver the feasibility study and the investment plan and potential investors and clients of the future free zone. |
